Dr. Joseph Sharpe Voted “Best In Psychiatry In Nashville” in 2014
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) September 29, 2014 -- When asked to make a comment about this most recent honor, Dr. Joseph Sharpe said he felt beyond blessed to be selected as the "Best In Psychiatry In Nashville" in 2014 by Nashville Lifestyles Magazine.
Dr. Sharpe's main focus is to put the patient first, treating each as a person and not a unit of healthcare; as he puts it, “I believe in treating people like I would want to be treated, with confidentiality and care, and in an environment that is comfortable, non-threatening, non-judgmental, and safe.” In today's climate where most patients are forced to tolerate long waits and rushed visits, Dr. Sharpe goes against the grain by taking his time with each patient to listen and provide appropriate, comprehensive psychiatric treatment according to the specific needs.
Dr. Sharpe graduated from the University of Tennessee, Memphis Medical School in 1999 and then continued his training in psychiatry at Duke University where he served as chief resident of the Duke Inpatient service. He is a board certified psychiatrist, a member of the American Psychiatric Association, and a member of the Tennessee Psychiatric Association.
Upon completing his formal training, Dr. Sharpe moved to Nashville and has been a private practicing psychiatrist for the past eleven years. He can be contacted at his own clinic, The Nashville Wellness Center, located at the Baptist Hospital campus in downtown Nashville.

It’s no surprise Dr. Sharpe was voted one of the Best Doctors Of Nashville as his philosophy is, “Everyone is unique and everyone deserves a treatment that is tailored specific to them whether through counseling, supportive therapy, psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, medications or a combination of the above." He believes medications are important but are not necessary in every case. When medications are indicated he prefers to use the lowest dose possible to treat the symptoms, but enough to be effective.
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Sharpe is a psychiatric hospitalist for Baptist Hospital in Nashville and at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In addition he also serves as medical director for adult inpatient psychiatric services at TrustPoint Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Services provided include psychiatry, psychotherapy, and medication management services for a broad variety of mental health issues including Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Spectrum Illnesses, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD), Attention Deficit Disorders (ADHD), Sleeping Disorders, Schizophrenia, Addiction, Personality Disorders and Dementia.
Dr. Sharpe believes in the biological-psychological-social-spiritual model in which all of these elements are taken into consideration when formulating the best treatment plan. Therapy can come in many forms that can include psychotherapy, counseling and medication management. “My long term goal with everyone is symptom remission, with or without medication. I believe that through education, therapy, counseling, and sometimes medication everyone can return to their previous level of functioning and enjoy life to the fullest.”
