Dr. Indira Guzman, a faculty member at Trident University International (Trident) since 2006, has just accepted the position of Program Director of the Ph.D. program in the College of Business Administration. This role had been vacant due to the departure of Dr. Sigalit Ronen for a position at California State University, Northridge. Dr. Guzman most recently served as Director of the Computer Science and Information Technology Programs.

Doctoral degrees have been a cornerstone of the Trident academic experience since the University’s inception in 1998. Positioning itself as a research institution, the continued development and expansion of these programs is key to strengthening the University’s mission of academic excellence and compassionate commitment. Trident is the only 100% online institution granting doctorate degrees that is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

“With Dr. Guzman's professional experience and years of service to Trident, we're incredibly fortunate that she has been able to quickly transition into her new role. She understands our student population, and the ideas and enthusiasm she is bringing to the table support our pillars of academic excellence and compassionate commitment," Dr. Stephen (Simcha) Pollard, Dean of the College of Business Administration & College of Information Systems.

Dr. Guzman has quickly jumped into her new position, coming to the table with a number of enhancements and important changes to the University’s doctoral programs. Among these is an e-portfolio that will serve as an online database for students to store assignments, feedback from professors, research articles, and any other relevant dissertation work. This e-portfolio is housed within the Trident Learning Community. She will also be implementing an added focus on quantitative concepts and the benefits of data analysis in all facets of scholarly research.

Additionally, she hopes to see more research collaboration between doctoral students and Trident faculty. These partnerships are unique educational opportunities that can lead to published work in peer-reviewed journals and research presentations at conferences. This relationship is key for students to build their field expertise and it furthers Trident’s reputation as a research university.

During her tenure as Director of the Computer Science and Information Technology Programs, Dr. Guzman made curriculum changes following standard learning outcomes of institutions like Association of Information Systems (AIS), Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP), and ABET, the accrediting body for computer science programs. She launched new concentrations and articulation agreements in the undergraduate programs and was instrumental in making Trident academic advocates of ISACA, Cyberwatch West, and NCWIT.

Prior to her time at Trident, Dr. Guzman served as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY, where she also received her Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology. She was a Fulbright-LASPAU Scholar Fellow for 2000-2002, receiving the LASPAU Faculty Development Program scholarship. In 2008, she was included as part of Who’s Who in America in Science and Technology, and was the recipient of National Science Foundation funding for conducting doctoral research for 2004-2006. Her research has been published in numerous journals, including Information Technology and People, Latin American and Caribbean Journal of the Association of Information Systems, and Data Base for Advances in Information Systems.
