Illegal Immigrant Creates New Life for Herself with God’s Help; Steve Aicinena Releases New Book
ODESSA, Texas – (PRWEB) September 29, 2014 -- Dreams and hope can sustain us, even when circumstances seem at their worst. Follow the life, struggle and determination of one woman to survive and thrive, despite a multitude of challenges, in this new novel released by Dog Ear Publishing.
A life of extreme poverty was the future that awaited Luz Luna. When her parents married, the beautiful Paola was just 13 and her husband Pedro was 27. The family lived in Zaragoza, Mexico, a short distance from the border, yet the United States and a better life seemed a world away.
Survival becomes even more challenging for the Luna family after Luz’s mother dies giving birth to her 17th child. The only physical contact the children have with their father – and often each other – is abuse. A violent act takes Luz’s innocence at the age of four, and she witnesses a seemingly endless stream of misfortunes. Time spent in an orphanage and living with another family improves her life in some ways but make it much worse in others. Luz desperately seeks to become a United States citizen. She marries young and her past haunts her marriage.
Despite the suffering in her life, Luz strives to find the good in humanity when she needs it most, relying on prayer, perseverance, and her own hard work to make a better life for herself and her children. “From the Mountains, to the Valley, to the Promised Land: The Journey of Luz Luna” becomes a story of hope and of love.
Luz Luna’s unforgettable story shows how one person’s journey can make a difference in the lives of others and demonstrates the power of God to work miracles when believers answer His call. As the author states, “When individuals overcome obstacles in their lives to find peace and success, we are inspired. When God’s hand is seen in the processes of overcoming, His love is demonstrated for all to see.”
This is the first novel for author Steve Aicinena, who has published another book and numerous professional papers. Aicinena, a professor of kinesiology at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, also serves at the university’s athletic director and head volleyball coach. Many of his recent academic publications have focused on morality and ethics in sport from a religious perspective. Aicinena, born in San Diego, traveled to Tijuana and Ensenada, Mexico, often when he was young, spending three months traveling in the country in his early 20s.
