Kalaty Rug Corporation Releases Top Tips for Fall and Winter Area Rugs Stains
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 30, 2014 -- Kalaty Rug Corporation, a national name in area rugs based outside of New York City, released today a tip sheet on best practices when protecting a home’s area rugs for the upcoming seasons in response to predictions of a harsh winter ahead for the United States. The company believes that proper rug care can extend the life and beauty of a rug.
“Keeping your rug clean amidst the demands of everyday life is a challenge,” explained Ariel Kalaty, spokesperson of Kalaty Rug Corporation. “In addition to regular vacuuming, protecting the rug against food and beverage spills, and turning the rug, you need to prevent your area rugs from becoming destroyed from seasonal weather.”
With textile cleaning, the best cure is to prevent stains. To fully protect an area rug from the seasonal weather, it is best practice to have a door mat outside of the door to help visitors remove dirt, grass clippings, leaves or snow from their shoes prior to entering the home. To protect the majority of the rugs in the home, have guests remove their shoes upon entering.
Fall weather requires regular lawn mowing and leaf removal. During this season, one of the most common stain types that can affect an area rug is grass stains. If a grass stain is discovered, Kalaty suggests mixing a quarter teaspoon of mild laundry detergent with cold water to blot onto the stain. Never rub the stain. Blot the stain with a white towel until dry to the touch.
For winter weather, road salt can easily become tracked into the house on shoes. Prevention is the best solution to keep the area rug from staining. Regularly vacuum the rug to decrease the number of hardened salt crystals on the rug.
Often it is difficult to tell that the salt is affecting the area rug until it gets wet and leaves a white stain. If a stain does appear, remove it as quickly as possible. To remove the stain, Kalaty suggests mixing a quarter cup of mild dishwashing soap with one cup of warm water. With a white towel, blot the stain until dry.
“Fall and winter weather can take a toll on the inside of your home,” exclaimed Kalaty. “Knowing how to prevent staining, and what to do should it happen, will help you eliminate the stain quickly. The quicker you remove a stain, the better.”
