MORE Research Presented for the LANAP and LAPIP Protocols
Cerritos, Calif. (PRWEB) September 29, 2014 -- MILLENNIUM DENTAL TECHNOLOGIES, Inc. (“MDT”), the world leader in patient and dentist satisfaction in laser periodontitis and peri-implantitis treatments with LANAP® and LAPIP™ protocols, announces milestones.
Twenty-five percent or 1 out of 4 of the active members of the AAP licensed to practice in the U.S. are now practitioners of LANAP® and LAPIP™ protocols for treating periodontal and peri-implant disease using an “arthroscopic-like” technique without scalpel or sutures.
Of particular note, was the main-stage “Point-Counter-Point” on lasers in periodontal disease treatment. Presenting in front of a large ballroom audience on the benefits of lasers, and specifically LANAP, was Professor and Dean of the University of Maryland School Of Dentistry, Dr. Mark Reynolds. Presenting a contrarian view in opposition of a growing trend of lasers in periodontics was retired Professor Dr. Charles Cobb.
Dr. Reynolds presented the most scientific presentation of two opposing points of view, including findings from a LANAP 5 site, university and private practice-based Multi-Centered Clinical Study. While Dr. Cobb’s presentation was largely opinion and critical inquiry, Dr. Cobb confirmed that LANAP was at least “equivalent” to modified Widman flap surgery in referencing the Multi-Centered Clinical Study.
During a main-stage presentation on lasers and periodontitis, two university researchers presented the results of a clinical study published earlier this year that showed favorable outcomes in patients treated with the LANAP protocol.
Mark A. Reynolds, DDS, PhD, professor and dean of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, and Charles M. Cobb, DDS, adjunct professor emeritus at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, both presented literature reviews of scientific articles on the effectiveness of laser technology in treating periodontal disease. Dr. Reynolds also detailed the findings of two Human Histology studies showing regeneration as an outcome following the LANAP protocol. He also reviewed a five-site, university and private practice-based multi-center study that favorably compared the LANAP protocol to conventional treatment of advanced periodontitis. In citing the same study, Dr. Cobb confirmed that the LANAP treatment was found to be equivalent to modified Widman flap surgery for probing depth reduction and clinical attachment level (CAL) gain, two of the criteria used to assess the effectiveness of periodontal disease treatment.
Robert H, Gregg, DDS, co-founder and president of MDT, stated, “Dr. Reynolds’ presentation pointed out that while the LANAP protocol and conventional gum surgery yielded similar results in this one study, reduced postoperative gum recession, discomfort and bleeding were found to be advantages for the LANAP-treated patient.”
Dawn M. Gregg, DDS, CEO and training director for the INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED LASER DENTISTRY (IALD), commented, “The accumulating research continues to stack up in favor of the LANAP protocol, with four peer-reviewed studies published in 2014.”
Delwin K. McCarthy, DDS, chief technology officer and co-founder of MDT added, “The adoption of lasers for periodontal and implant disease treatment is clearly an irreversible trend.”
