Healthcare Technology Entrepreneur Kingsley R. Chin, MD To Present At H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship's Distinguished Lecture Series
Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 02, 2014 -- For Immediate Release
Dr. Kingsley R. Chin, an Honors Graduate of Harvard Medical School and practicing orthopedic spine surgeon, has been honored with the invitation to present at the H. Wayne Huizenga Business School at Nova Southeastern University, in Davie, Florida on October 26th, 2014. Dr. Chin is the Founder and CEO of KICVentures, a private equity firm he founded in 2005. KICVentures portfolio includes:
• SpineFrontier, Inc., a medical device company.
• The LESS Institute, an outpatient treatment clinic.
• The LESS Institute Online, a website that empowers physicians and patients to learn and communicate with one another.
• SenseDriver Technologies, a company that develops Head-Up Displays (HUD) for the connected car.
The Distinguished Business Leaders Lecture Series brings prominent leaders in a diverse set of industries and fields of study to speak to students and the public each year. Dr. Chin follows in the steps of many other important thought-leaders who have presented in the past, including former CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch, founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET), Robert Johnson, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Elie Wiesel, Social Justice Activist, Kerry Kennedy and Nobel Peace Laureate Archbishop, Desmond Tutu.
Dr. Chin will highlight the fast-evolving healthcare landscape, the impact of future healthcare technology, and a new philosophy that focuses on treating patients in an outpatient setting, as opposed to hospitals.
“Though the number of hospitals in the US is growing and the cost of healthcare is rising, our patient outcomes are very poor, in comparison with other countries. Hospitals were developed to treat the extremely sick, treat rare diseases, and to handle epidemics. Today, US hospitals are a big business, driving up the cost of healthcare by performing more intensive surgeries. This results in greater complications and very poor patient outcomes, satisfaction, and sense of well-being. The LESS Institute Clinics can treat the vast majority of orthopedic and spine ailments in an outpatient surgery center safely and more effectively at a fraction of the cost. We are seeing happier patients with better outcomes after being treated in outpatient centers. I am working with like-minded surgeons to develop Less Exposure Surgery (LES) technologies and techniques to prove that less is more.” says Dr. Chin. He describes the LES technique as “a less invasive approach that gently preserves patient’s anatomy, minimizes blood loss, surgery time, and risk to achieve maximal effectiveness for a quick and less painful recovery.”
He also expressed his commitment to improving education “for patients, physicians, and young people, especially in scientific-related fields.” He plans to achieve this through his latest non-profit philanthropic venture, the LES University, a LES Society initiative. Dr. Chin sees this lecture series as an opportunity to inspire the audience to make a difference in the world.
Dr. Chin is the founder and CEO of KICVentures, a private venture capital firm interested in the healthtech industry. The firm invests in enterprises that prioritize physician-patient relationships that modernize, integrate and improve cost-efficiency and outcomes in a fast-changing healthcare industry.
