Mike Coffey, owner and president of background investigations firm Imperative Information Group, will present three educational sessions at the annual HRSouthwest Conference at the Fort Worth Convention Center October 5-8, 2014. In an industry dominated by giant data brokers promoting instant background checks, Mike’s passion for thorough, straightforward reports has made Imperative Information Group a true exception. Mike will present all three days at the conference with two presentations dedicated to what employers need to know about background checks and a third in a group with legal experts on hot legal topics.
Mike Coffey’s Presentation Schedule:
October 6: Developing a Criminal History Evaluation Tool: In this presentation, you will learn to develop a criminal history relevance matrix as a tool for documenting policies with regard to the impact of individuals' criminal histories on their employment eligibility.
October 7: Legal Exchange: Join Mike and other legal experts at the legal exchange and hear from these legal experts on hot legal topics. The volume of regulations the HR professional is required to know, to implement and to operate within can keep you up at night. Hear the latest news and learn about new laws and compliance. You will return to the office better informed and prepared to ensure compliance. Attendees will get the latest compliance updates in a small-group setting. Each expert speaker will provide a presentation on a pre-assigned legal topic with multiple groups and provide expert answers to their pressing legal questions. This customized legal learning experience allows participants to get the answers they need on six different legal topics.
October 8: Outside of the Box: Developing a Legally Compliant and Effective Criminal History Inquiry: Nationwide, the “ban the box” movement is limiting when and what employers can ask applicants about their criminal history. Federal agencies like the EEOC, state legislatures, and even municipalities have weighed in on this topic, leaving employers in a quandary as to how to make an informed hiring decision without running afoul of myriad laws. In this one-hour presentation, he will examine the issues surrounding “ban the box” and potential responses from employers.
The annual HRSouthwest conference is held at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas and delivers exceptional HR education that will expand your knowledge and your network. The conference is the largest in the United States where top industry leaders deliver more than 100 educational sessions on HR topics including Healthcare, Employment Law and Talent Management. More than 200 companies will be on display in the Exhibit Hall demonstrating their latest products and services.
