Institute of American Indian Arts Announces “Art in the Raw” Exhibition to Open Featuring Student Work
Santa Fe, New Mexico (PRWEB) October 01, 2014 -- The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) announces today that its students, along with a number of Santa Fe Indian School students, will open an exhibition featuring work with raw or unfinished materials designed to push the boundaries of what makes traditional art. The exhibition’s opening reception takes place at 5 pm, October 8 at the Balzar Contemporary Edge Gallery in the Academic Building on the IAIA campus at 83 Avan Nu Po Road.
“The exhibition is uncensored and nothing gets turned away,” says Mary Deleary, Gallery Coordinator at IAIA. “The content is up to the students, but this year we challenged the artists to use mediums they might not have worked in and with materials that are unusual. The intent of the exhibition is to let the students take center stage with their work and be involved in the installation process.”
The “Art in the Raw” exhibition has been ongoing since 2004. This year’s exhibition has around 40 students participating and will show 60 pieces.
The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
