Throughout the month of October the doctors of SF Custom Chiropractic and doctors of chiropractic (DCs) nationwide will be educating patients on the importance of a “conservative care first” approach to health care, which encourages non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical treatments for pain management and improvement of quality of life.

“Conservative care should always be considered your first option” says Dr. Adam Jacobs, founder of, “Chiropractic is safe, effective and worth a shot if you have never tried it.”

Our chiropractors use a hands-on approach to help patients manage back, neck and extremity pain. In addition to targeted manipulations that correctly align the spine, our doctors performing Active Release Technique (ART) on the surrounding muscles, which helps to improve movement and range of motion. The result is decreased pressure on sensitive nerves and a body that can increasingly move with ease.

Chiropractic care not only makes sitting at a desk all day more manageable, or reaching those fitness goals less daunting, but also helps patients avoid unnecessary and invasive treatments and surgeries.

“Doctors told me I had a bulging disc and would need major surgery within the next year, sent me home with some pain meds and a big medical bill” says a long term patient of Dr. Gustin’s.

The likelihood of surgery for workers with musculoskeletal injuries is 42.7% when the first point of contact is a surgeon or an MD. By contrast, when the first point of contact is a chiropractic physician or a DC, the likelihood of surgery decreases by 1.5% - a significant percentage when we consider that the overall risk of death from spinal surgery is 1,800 for every 1 million surgeries. Regardless of whether a patient is at high risk for surgery, chiropractic treatment will decrease the long-term cost of care by 20%. At SF Custom Chiropractic, our doctors strive for a whole person approach that takes into account all aspects of functionality, allowing for an appropriate diagnosis and a treatment plan that is cost effective, drug-free and personalized to each patient’s injury and lifestyle.

SF Custom Chiropractic was founded by Dr. Jacobs in 2011, after he discovered a pressing need for complete chiropractic care in the Financial District.
