Catherine F. Lutz, Breast Cancer Survivor, aims to help parents and children discuss cancer through her self-published children’s book, Mommy R Your Boobies Broken? Breast cancer through the eyes of a 3 year old.

“Telling my kids I had breast cancer was incredibly painful. I struggled with trying to find the perfect words to break the news but realized none exist. It was heart wrenching to watch their eyes fill with tears, to see the scared look on their face, and to hear them asking me to promise not to die!”

Despite dealing with the emotional turmoil of a cancer diagnosis, parents should not feel pressured to use a cookie-cutter approach to talking to their children about cancer because family dynamics may differ.

The book takes readers through a whirlwind of emotions, using silly, laughable, and adorable illustrations to remind readers that the story is told through the eyes of a 3 year old. With a bit of a giggle, Alyssa Lutz said, “the book will help kids smile and laugh when they hear the word boobies!”
