The InterGeo 2014 conference in Berlin marks the anniversary of a fortuitous meeting between Pix4D and PDF3D which, one year ago, has bought the highly anticipated release of Pix4Dmapper software. Today, Pix4Dmapper includes PDF3D’s 3D PDF conversion.
Both companies have been making great strides in the geospatial arena in recent months and, with this latest collaboration, orthomosaics, DSMs, DTMs and point clouds produced by Pix4Dmapper can for the first time be converted into multiple page 3D PDFs.
“This new feature in Pix4Dmapper is very valuable for our users who mostly convert aerial images collected with light-weight UAVs into geo-referenced orthomosaics, surface and terrain models, point clouds and more. Adding 3D PDF conversion into Pix4Dmapper allows users to preview GIS data in animated PDFs and to share them easily and quickly with anyone they choose”, explains Christoph Strecha, CEO of Pix4D.
Ian Curington of PDF3D added, “We were delighted to have met the Pix4D team last year at InterGeo. PDF3D has been developing PDF conversion products for geo-information for the past couple of years and our two core products, PDF3D ReportGen and PDF3D SDK now have some of the most powerful Geospatial PDF features available. By making these features available to Pix4Dmapper users, we’ll foresee interesting collaborations as the industry continues to look for ways to automate workflows and improve communications on platforms everyone can access for free.”
PDF3D (http://www.pdf3d.com) produce a suite of widely respected software products and plugins for engineers, scientists and developers who need to communicate complex data and 3D models to others in the universally accessible PDF format. PDF3D’s technology provides the fastest and easiest-to-use, highly compressed 3D PDF conversion available for an ever-increasing range of formats and tools. From 3D CAD to GIS, DWG and LIDAR, PDF3D works closely with users and programmers within the engineering, geospatial, geology, aerospace, architecture, medical and product packaging communities worldwide.
With over ten years of leading scientific research and founded in 2011, Pix4D has become the main provider and industry standard for image processing software. Started as a spin-off of the EPFL’s Computer Vision Lab in Switzerland, Pix4D is a dynamic and rapidly expanding company with headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland and local offices in San Francisco, USA and Shanghai, China. Pix4D develops and distributes its proprietary desktop software called Pix4Dmapper that allows to convert thousands of terrestrial and aerial images taken by lightweight UAV or aircraft into geo-referenced orthomosaics, DSMs, DTMs and point clouds, index maps, textured 3D models and simplified CAD models.
