Austin Companies and Business Leaders Take on Fit Company Challenge and Commit to Healthy Living
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) October 04, 2014 -- On September 13th, 2014 a group of business leaders and company teams in Austin took part in the Fit Company Challenge, a corporate fitness event hosted by the Fit Company Institute providing area companies and business leaders an opportunity to show the importance of living a fit and healthy lifestyle. Participants ranged in ages from professionals in their 20’s to executives in their early 60’s and competed in categories for Fittest Executive, Entrepreneur, Doctor, Lawyer, Professional, and the coveted Fittest Company award.
Over 50 companies were represented in Austin’s 4th annual event including company teams that competed for the Fittest Company award with David Weekley Homes finishing in first place. “Our Austin Team thoroughly enjoyed participating in the [Fit] Company [Challenge] this year,” said Ken Swisher, Austin Division President for David Weekley Homes. “David Weekley Homes prides itself on promoting healthy living in the workplace. Our company’s culture is such that we are committed to our Team Members and their wellbeing and this was a great opportunity to come together as a Team for some friendly competition!”
While the Challenge was designed to test participants overall fitness and to get companies and business leaders together for a friendly competition and health promotion, most participants saw being part of the event as an even bigger opportunity. Cari Burningham, CEO of Mamazzy and winner of Austin’s Fittest Executive award, saw her participating as a way to be a positive impact in the Austin community.
“Business and fitness go hand in hand,” said Cari, “Immersing your life in an active lifestyle will help drive your passion for what you do and ignite your inner ambition to achieve your goals. The [Fit Company] Challenge has inspired me to get involved in the community and share the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle not only with business professionals but also the youth to help them become strong business leaders for our future.”
Participants and companies were encouraged to track their workouts leading up to the Challenge via Fit Chimp, a leading workplace wellness platform and the official training partner for the event. The Fit Chimp platform provided members with a variety of workouts to help participants prepare for the challenge. They also provided tracking tools, leaderboards, and contests for daily fitness efforts leading up to event day making participation in the event even more impactful.
On event day, with the help of over 30 volunteers, participants challenged their strength, conditioning, power, agility, and endurance in order to show their companies and colleagues that they practice what they preach. Participants used their involvement to bring out company team members, and family members to cheer them on and even run with them during their 5k which was the last course in the challenge.
The challenge was held at Zilker Park, and a portion of the proceeds benefitted the Central Texas Back on my Feet chapter, helping to change the lives of homeless people one mile, job, and house at a time.
