Back to Basics: New Book Illustrates How to Raise Grandchildren and Stay Healthy
Houston, TX (PRWEB) October 07, 2014 -- According to AARP, more than 2.5 million grandparents return to parenting and raise their grandchildren. In fact, the new term “grandfamilies” captures the growing trend.
When 3 of her 13 grandchildren came to live with her, Karen Best Wright became one of the 2.5 million grandparents who had to restructure their lives to accommodate little ones running around the house again. Yet, unlike her own, she had to come to terms with giving them back.
“I Love You from the Edges” illustrates Wright’s most memorable moments with her three grandkids, what it was like to return them, the lessons she learned and the advice she desires other grandparents to hear.
“I wanted to share my experiences to help other grandparents,” Wright says. “I also wanted to encourage them to become aware of the importance of taking care of their own health and promote their own wellbeing, as well as those of the grandchildren.”
With a Bachelor of Science in health education and a master’s degree in psychology, Wright is a health educator and wellness coach. Throughout Wright’s narrative, she supplies women 50 years and older with a guide to maintaining a positive, active and vigorous lifestyle.
In addition to her focus on health, Wright emphasizes themes of forgiveness and compassion when addressing social issues surrounding the epidemic of children not being raised by their biological parents. In the midst of frugal living and emotional strain, she shares the importance of a healthy life and a love story of children who captured her heart.
