Why drop your warm-up gear for recycling at the race? Because when you're running a marathon in a Halloween costume, there's nothing like a big start line reveal!
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2014
American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS) green recycling fairies and elf mascots are gearing up once again for the Worlds Largest Halloween Half Marathon and costume contest. As the official textile recycling partner of the race, ATRS employees and volunteers will be on hand to ensure the Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles Halloween Half Marathon & 5K is spooktacular green community event at L.A. Live October 24-26.
Runners, participants and spectators are encouraged to bring a bag of unwanted running gear and shoes to the ATRS Health & Fitness Expo booth for recycling, and drop off warm-up gear into convenient carts marked ROCK, RUN, RECYCLE at the corals. Because when you're running a marathon in a Halloween costume, there's really nothing like a big start line reveal, is there?
Over 30,000 registered runners are expected to participate in the fun-filled festivities, including a costume contest with prizes on the main stage. Every pound of discarded clothing collected on Race Day and at the Start Line, Finish Line and Health and Fitness Expo will reduce the marathon's environmental footprint and benefit a local charity.
The ROCK, RUN, RECYCLE campaign conceived by ATRS and The Competitor Group ensures thousands of pounds of race related recyclables are diverted from California's waste stream. Perishables collected from the finish line will be collected by ATRS Recycling and delivered to support "We've Got Your Back" a school nutrition program serving approximately 25,000 undernourished, homeless students throughout Southern California. Marathon apparel, warm-up gear and unclaimed medals will be recycled to support area charity Giving Children Hope.
