Hoops4Heroes 3ON3 Charity Basketball Tournament at Palm Beach Atlantic University First of Its Kind in Palm Beach County
WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA (PRWEB) October 06, 2014 -- Organizers for Hoops4Heroes say their charity 3ON3 basketball tournament will be like nothing else Palm Beach County, or South Florida, for that matter, has ever seen before.
The Tournament has been organized for the sole benefit of Wounded Warrior Project®, utilizing the Foundation’s “Proud Supporter” fundraising platform, which allows anyone to apply for, organize, and carry out a sports or tournament-related event to raise donations and awareness for the benefit of WWP.
Hoops4Heroes is a vision being carried out by a few passionate volunteers with exactly that end goal in mind. It all started with the vision of Craig Goldenfarb and Tom Copeland to honor and commemorate wounded combat Veterans now returning from their final overseas tour, as the Iraq and Afghanistan wars complete their final unwinding.
Palm Beach Atlantic University in downtown West Palm Beach will be the host of the all-day Tournament, allowing full use of the 60,000+ square foot Greene Athletic Complex, home of the Sailfish, the Men’s and Women’s basketball and volleyball teams.
Michael Brown, Assistant Athletic Director for PBA, has been working with Copeland for many months preparing for the event, and says it was an honor to be asked to host the event. “It’s with great pleasure that we announce PBA has been selected to host Hoops4Heroes, and we’re excited to partner with the creative and wonderful people behind this great fundraiser to make this Tournament truly memorable”, Brown said.
Emerson Lotzia of ESPN West Palm (106.3 FM) and sports anchor with WPTV Newschannel 5 and FOX 29 has signed on as Master of Ceremonies. Emerson is always ready and willing to give back to his community. He is especially excited to give his time to an effort that benefits Veterans in November. “I’m thrilled to help organize and promote Hoops4Heroes," said Lotzia. "And not only because it is so unique to our area, but anytime you mix non-profit fundraisers with sports, wonderful things can happen!”
The Tournament will be held on November 9th, 2014, with the first games beginning at 9:00 a.m., while the Final game is scheduled to play at 4:00 PM. The event takes place two days before Veteran’s Day, and time will be taken throughout the day to recognize and honor Veterans of all military service backgrounds who are in attendance. Physically wounded veterans who cannot compete as players are encouraged to get involved as a Team Captain (forming their own team of three to compete), or as coaches, and as spectators who will be given front-row seats to the games. Veterans who can compete are encouraged to form and register their own Teams.
Anyone and everyone can now register a Team online at http://hoops4heroes.org. A minimum $60 donation provided through the Hoops4Heroes/Wounded Warrior Project® fundraising page will be required, funds which are paid directly to WWP. Teams are encouraged to “Rally Their Troops”, and solicit donations from friends and family in their Team name.
The Team with the most donations going into the Tournament will receive special recognition and an award from Hoops4Heroes, the Proud Supporter Award.
And of course, the Champions will receive the Hoops4Heroes World Championship trophy.
Official Rules and Regulations for Players, including information about divisions and brackets, can be found online at the website, http://hoops4heroes.org.
Goldenfarb and Copeland work at the Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, P.A. in West Palm Beach, and are expecting many of the Teams who compete to be composed of other local trial lawyers. “These are competitive people”, says Goldenfarb of his lawyer friends, “so beating each other on the court is reward enough. The trophy is mere proof”, Goldenfarb quips.
Copeland says that any and all who are interested should get involved, and he makes it easy to do so. “This is an all-inclusive event and fundraiser. Anyone can form a Team. Anyone can come watch the games. The event is free to all to attend. Anyone can volunteer as a Coach, Ref, or Scorekeeper. No one will be turned away, because the success of this Tournament hinges on how much people participate. If you’re looking for something fun and different to do this fall, here it is”.
