(PRWEB) October 06, 2014 -- It’s that time of year again –– flu season.
Prepare yourself and your family for the season with a $15 flu vaccine (while supplies last) at your local MedPost Urgent Care clinic.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), this year’s vaccine contains the most common types of the flu virus and is recommended for everyone age six months and older. People who have a chronic illness or are pregnant, as well as young children and healthcare workers, are strongly advised to get the vaccination.
The medical professionals at MedPost recommend getting the vaccine early in the flu season, since it can take up to two weeks for your body to develop antibodies against the virus.
In addition to getting a flu shot, there are a few precautions that you can take to guard yourself against the virus:
1. Wash your hands often with soap and water.
2. Carry alcohol-based hand sanitizer with you and use it frequently, especially after you’ve been in a public place.
3. Avoid touching your face.
4. Exercise, eat healthy and get plenty of rest.
5. Cover your nose and mouth with your elbow when coughing or sneezing.
6. Don’t shake hands with people.
7. If you have a fever, stay home.
Symptoms of the flu can include fever and chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches and occasionally nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. If you think you might have the flu, fever reducers like ibuprofen and acetaminophen can help, along with decongestants and antihistamines for congestion and runny nose. You can also gargle warm salt water to relieve a sore throat. Patients who have chronic medical conditions, are experiencing shortness of breath or can’t keep fluids down, should seek medical attention.
