Ithaca's Discovery Trail Launches Kids Programming for 2014-15 School Year
Ithaca, NY (PRWEB) October 04, 2014 -- Ithaca's Discovery Trail has launched the Kids Discover The Trail! Program for the 2014-15 school year. Kids Discover the Trail! is a unique and exciting way for students to discover, by experience, the world-class educational resources located in Tompkins County. When you visit Ithaca, NY, this program will offer curriculum-based field trips to the Ithaca Discovery Trail sites including the Cayuga Nature Center, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, The History Center in Tompkins County, Museum of the Earth, and more. Kids Discover the Trail! connects area elementary students with all the Discovery Trail sites have to offer including hands-on experience with art, science, nature, and history.
KDT! offers a unique educational experience unlike standard individual class field trips. Students ranging from Pre-K to grade 5/6 from different schools experience the Discovery Trail organizations together providing a new, diverse, and exciting learning experience year after year. For Discovery Trail sites that charge admission, students receive complimentary family come-back passes encouraging families to visit together increasing awareness and extending the learning experience.
With the launch this year, Ithaca's Discovery Trail is looking to expand the KDT! Program in order to serve a wider geographical region. The Kids Discover the Trail! program currently serves the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) and the Trumansburg Central School District (TCSD) with a goal to extend this educational opportunity to all six Tompkins County school districts and their students. Activities including on site, pre-trip, and post-trip materials align with the New York State Learning Standards. The KDT! program is professionally evaluated each year to ensure a quality experience.
