Working Wounded Games Athletes to Demand More of Themselves Nov. 1
VIENNA, Va. (PRWEB) October 02, 2014 -- Adaptive athletes from around the world will compete Saturday, Nov. 1 at the 3rd Annual Working Wounded Games at CrossFit Rubicon in Vienna, Va.
The Working Wounded Games, launched in 2012, is the flagship fundraising event of the Crossroads Adaptive Athletic Alliance. It pits adaptive athletes against each other in a functional fitness competition on a level playing field.
Registration is open until Oct. 3 for adaptive athletes ($30 for military veterans, $40 for civilians). Spectators are encouraged to save the date and attend. Businesses are invited to sponsor.

“Adaptive is a compliment,” said David “Chef” Wallach, owner of CrossFit Rubicon, who co-founded the Crossroads Adaptive Alliance. “It’s their capacity to adapt and overcome. We look at it from a completely different perspective.”
The Working Wounded Games help adaptive athletes see that where they previously thought they were limited, they are not.
Proceeds from the Working Wounded Games benefit the Crossroads Adaptive Alliance and its mission to educate and train adaptive athletes to become adaptive coaches, helping to facilitate the reintegration of other permanently injured athletes back into both the sporting community and the local community at large through sport and competitive efforts.
To date this year, more than 40 athletes from all over the world, coming in from as far as England, have already registered for the 2014 Working Wounded Games, said Sara Olsen, who co-founded the Crossroads Adaptive Alliance. This is more than double from the first Working Wounded Games in 2012.
The Working Wounded Games drew 33 competitors from all over the country in 2013, with more than half being amputees and many of them military veterans.
LMT Inc. has been a title sponsor and has coproduced the Working Wounded Games since its inception in 2012.

The Working Wounded Games expanded its competition categories this year and will bring back Spectator Workouts of the Day.
“Come cheer on your favorite athlete or just get a glimpse at some of the most amazing athletes in the fitness competition community,” Olsen said.
All attendees – from athletes to spectators and volunteers – will be required to sign a waiver upon entry. Event opening ceremonies will start at 9 a.m.
Athletes who have competed in the previous games, and those who are registered already for the 2014 event, include military veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, first responders, athletes born with missing limbs, amputees following vehicle accidents, athletes with cerebral palsy, and more.
