Live at the Gordon Center! -- Piano Sensation Christopher O’Riley to Perform Classical Takes on Classic Cuts Conceived by Alt-Rock Legends Radiohead, Nirvana, & Others
Owings Mills, MD (PRWEB) October 07, 2014 -- The Gordon Center for Performing Arts is thrilled to welcome one of the leading pianists of his generation onto the Gordon stage Saturday, December 6 at 8:00pm – the world-renown Christopher O’Riley.
A master classical pianist, O’Riley is also host of the popular NPR music program, From the Top, and is highly regarded for his eloquent and compelling musings on music and popular culture. His latest performances stretch the piano beyond the classical repertoire and into the rich uncharted territory of contemporary and alt-rock.
As host of From the Top http://www.fromthetop.org O’Riley introduces nationwide audiences to the next generation of Classical music stars. His show airs weekly on over 200 stations.
The pianist/radio host lives by the old Duke Ellington adage, “there are only two kinds of music, good music and bad,” genre distinctions notwithstanding. It’s these beliefs that compel him to introduce rock pieces he feels passionately about in concert, and champion under sung masters via From the Top.
O’Riley has released numerous recordings on a variety of labels including SONY, Harmonia Mundi and now White Tie Records, on which he recorded his latest, Out of My Hands, which you will hear performed at the Gordon.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Christopher with us at the Gordon,” said Randi Benesch, Managing Director of the Gordon Center. “He is an artist of the highest capability who tests boundaries both within and beyond musical genres. His musical ear is keen and discerning. He not only understands how different generations have defined and continue to define the music of their times, but he knows his music so well it literally pours forth from his hands.”
