As Omni-Channel retailing has become the new norm companies rely on creating a seamless shopping experience across multiple channels online, mobile and in stores with accurate, complete, and authentic product information to drive consumer interest and influence purchase decisions. Industry leaders drove discussions on how today’s consumers are demanding more data than ever which is fueling the attribute explosion. Including Jason Lavik, Business Process Consultant at Target, a leading U.S. retailer, presented on the demand Target has for more product information from their sources and how they are both using and simplifying distribution of data. Also, Sven Herschel, Product Manager at Google's Zurich office, explained how product data is defined for search engine processes and how high-quality product data improves these processes enabling a consistent online and offline shopping experience. Metcash, the leading Australian Wholesaler, shared the way they successfully approached an omni-channel solution based on GDSN principles, presented by Michael Haire, General Manager eData Administration at Metcash.
Comply with new regulation demands
At the congress, key topics were presented on how enterprises are working efficiently to comply with new regulatory demands - such as the EU Food Regulation and the FDA UDI regulation - using the GDSN data network. The participants discussed time-saving and cost reduction solutions to the challenges for the EU Food Regulation that will go into effect December 13, 2014. Volker Zeinar, Global Coordinator Auto-ID Affairs and global UDI project leader at B. Braun Melsungen AG, a major healthcare supplier, informed the attendees about the product information exchange with the FDA, the internal data maintenance and how medical devices have to be marked machine-readable (AIDC). Nihat Arkan, CEO at 1WorldSync: "Producers and distributors are obliged to gather and maintain up to several hundred attributes per product as well as to provide them promptly to trading partners and customers.
