US Cyber Commander to Speak at San Antonio Chamber’s Cybersummit
(PRWEB) October 06, 2014 -- The nation’s top military cybersecurity official, Admiral Michael S. Rogers, Commander of the US Cyber Command, Director of the National Security Agency and Chief, Central Security, will be the luncheon speaker for the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Cybersecurity Summit on Thursday, October 16. Admiral Rogers will discuss the future of U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Service, and what role the San Antonio based cybersecurity military missions play in that growth plan.
Before becoming a flag officer in 2007, Rogers also served as the director for Intelligence for both the Joint Chiefs of Staff and U.S. Pacific Command, and most recently as Commander, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. TENTH Fleet.
This half-day event begins with an executive overview of some of the key results from a year long Deloitte cybersecurity industry survey envisioned and commissioned by the Chamber, City of San Antonio, Bexar County, and numerous commercial companies based in San Antonio. This study identifies the companies, competencies and relative size of the cybersecurity industry in San Antonio, analyzes competitive regions across the country for economic development in cybersecurity, and; provides recommendations on how we can better target and grow cybersecurity companies in our region.
"It is an honor for us to host Admiral Rogers in San Antonio. As one of the nation's leaders in cybersecurity, we look forward to hearing how we can support their efforts locally," Richard Perez, Chamber President and CEO said.
Following the study presentation will be an overview of an action plan of the San Antonio Chamber’s Cybersecurity Committee, when industry experts and national thought leaders on the latest trends in cybersecurity will discuss how San Antonio is positioned for growth. Attendees will also hear from Maria Kussmaul, Co-Founder and Partner of AGC Partners, an investment banking group out of Boston, who will provide an “outside-in” look at the commercial cybersecurity companies in San Antonio and how our local cluster of businesses is viewed by outside investors and large security firms.
San Antonio boasts a significant concentration of Department of Defense (DOD) cybersecurity and intelligence missions and is home to the 24th Air Force (Air Forces Cyber), the 25th Air Force, and NSA/CSS Texas. These missions have been the starting point for many military personnel who have transitioned from service and started their own cybersecurity firms right here in San Antonio. With the strong partnership that exists between the DOD partners, federal contractors, commercial companies, and educational institutions, San Antonio is primed to continue growing the right type of talent and company base to support the national security missions that will continue to expand in this community.
The Summit will conclude with the luncheon address from Admiral Rogers. The event will be hosted at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio Hotel downtown, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sponsorships and reservations can be purchased online at http://www.sachamber.org.
