The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay Hosts a Gingerbread House Competition in Support of Local Children’s Programs
Half Moon Bay, California (PRWEB) October 05, 2014 -- For the eleventh consecutive year, The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay presents the annual holiday Gingerbread House Competition, a benefit for Coastside Children’s Programs. Pastry chefs from all over the Bay Area, both professional and self-taught, create amazing edible gingerbread homes that highlight the holiday décor at the oceanfront resort from December 1 through December 7, 2014.
A panel of judges selects a winner in each category including Child (12 and younger), Child Group (a group of children 12 and younger) Home Cook, Culinary Student and Professional Chef. Winners are announced at the resort’s Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration on Sunday, December 7 at 4:30 p.m. The Gingerbread Houses are also featured in an online auction with bidding is available at biddingforgood.com/CCP. Additional items including overnight stays, restaurant certificates and other products and services that make perfect holiday gifts are also available in the online auction.
The contest is complimentary to enter and a completed entry form must be submitted in advance for each creation. The deadline for submission of entry forms is Friday, November 21, 2014 without exception. Entry forms may be picked up in advance at the resort and mailed to Ginger Wills at Coastside Children’s Programs 494 Miramontes Avenue, Half Moon Bay, California 94019. Completed Gingerbread Houses are accepted at the resort’s main entrance at One Miramontes Point Road in Half Moon Bay Sunday, November 30 and Monday, December 1, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Houses entered after 3 p.m. on Monday, December 1 will not be eligible for judging, but will still be displayed and entered into the silent auction. All materials used in the gingerbread house must be edible, with the exception of the support structure or frame, lighting and flat base. All houses must also measure a maximum of 2'x2'x2' and be supported by a strong flat base that is fully transportable. Entrants are responsible for transporting their Gingerbread House to the resort. All entries not donated to Coastside Children’s Programs must be picked up from the resort by 5 p.m. Monday, December 8, or they will be discarded or donated to charity.
The Gingerbread House Competition is part of the resort’s Community Footprints program. Community Footprints was created to encourage leadership in volunteerism, fundraising, product donations and mentoring programs at a local level. No project is considered too large or too small. Dedicated Ritz-Carlton Ladies and Gentlemen provide a wide range of support and services to their community, including fund-raising for local charities, reading to the blind, preparing and serving lunches at homeless shelters, donating books to schools and volunteering at food banks. The Ritz-Carlton Community Footprints stresses that the most important resource is not always money, but time.
