Wirkn, a Mobile First Employment Solution, Announces $400,000 in Funding and Recruits Derek Szeto, Founder of RedFlagDeals.com as CEO
Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) October 14, 2014 -- Founded by Francois Jobin (a 25-year Retail/HR veteran & former VP of HR and eCommerce with The ALDO Group), Wirkn and Kinetic have also recruited Derek Szeto (Founder of RedFlagDeals.com and creator of Canada’s largest shopping community) to serve as the startup’s new CEO.
“Helping today’s youth kick-start the earliest stages of their careers and develop their skills in a mobile-first format is an inspiring mission,” says Szeto. “We’re also tackling a major problem that businesses around the world face today with recruiting, retaining and engaging today’s young mobile-centric workforce.”
With the Wirkn app, candidates will easily locate job opportunities as they walk down the street or through their local mall and apply via dynamic videos that allow candidates to showcase their personal brand to prospective employers. Store managers will have access to a pool of qualified candidates on demand, within the palm of their hand to fill new roles and address seasonal demand.
Wirkn is aimed at youth, targeting the retail and hospitality industry which represents more than 15.4 million employees in North America where at least 70% of all retail jobs are part-time.
With 39% of retail employees being under the age of 28, mobile is the perfect platform to help youth find opportunities to develop their skills and explore the workforce.
“Having an engaged workforce increases productivity, improves customer service, and reduces turnover, says Jobin – Wirkn’s Founding Chairman. “Wirkn makes finding, training and engaging youth simple, fast, and mobile.”
Kinetic Companies Inc. led the current round – after Wirkn engaged its subsidiary Kinetic Cafe Inc. (a global Design and Innovation Firm based in Toronto) to blueprint and design the Wirkn Platform.
Wirkn’s has also announced it has recruited Anthony Chan, formerly VP of Consumer and Digital Marketing at MasterCard Worldwide, to return to North America as its new General Manager – following his most recent MasterCard post in Singapore.
Jobin also says the firm expects to make significant additional announcements regarding: key clients, the formation of its advisory board, staffing and the next round of funding within the next 60 days.
Wirkn will be available in select local markets in October with an opening group of international retail brands.
