Fierce Energy Recognizes Tollgrade with Asset Management Innovation Award
Reston VA (PRWEB) October 07, 2014 -- Tollgrade Communications, Inc., the industry leader in redefining the global standard for reliability at the world’s largest electric utilities and telecommunications providers, announced today that it has been recognized by this year’s Fierce Innovation Awards: Energy Edition, a unique industry awards program powered by the publishers of FierceEnergy and FierceSmartGrid. Tollgrade won the top prize in the “Asset Management and Condition-based Maintenance” category. This is the second time in 2014 that the LightHouse platform, which consists of inductively powered Medium Voltage (MV) Smart Grid Sensors with Predictive Grid® Analytics software __title__ ], has been recognized for its innovation in Asset Management. Last month, LightHouse also won a Gold “Stevie®” Award in Asset Management Software at the 2014 American Business Awards.
Winners were selected by an exclusive panel of judges which included: Kevin Dasso, Director of Technology and Information Strategy, Pacific Gas and Electric Company; Lisa Davidson, Director of Customer Programs, San Diego Gas & Electric; Conrad Eustis, Director Retail Technology Strategy, Portland General Electric; Robert B. Frazier, Director of Electric Technology, CenterPoint Energy; Stuart Laval, Manager of Technology Development, Duke Energy; Bryan J. Olnick, Vice President of Distribution Operations in Power Delivery, Florida Power & Light; and Joseph E. Svachula, Vice President of Smart Grid and Technology, Commonwealth Edison.
Judges evaluated submissions based on technology innovation, financial impact, market validation, ability to integrate into existing network environments, and end-user customer experience.
“Winning a Fierce Energy Award in Asset Management is an incredible honor for Tollgrade because of the caliber of the utility executives that make up the judging panel,” said Edward H. Kennedy, President and CEO, Tollgrade Communications. “This is our second, consecutive Fierce Energy Award and we are thrilled to share this distinction with our utility customers who were so impactful in helping us achieve this recognition.”
Tollgrade’s LightHouse platform is made up of Medium Voltage (MV) Line Sensors that measure voltage, current and power (real, reactive and apparent), and operate on overhead circuits. The LightHouse platform is unique because it combines highly accurate sensor technology with Predictive Grid analytics software to classify grid conditions and assess network health. LightHouse sensors are deployed at substations and along feeders to identify, locate and troubleshoot the leading causes of power outages. Tollgrade’s Predictive Grid Analytics software combines a library of fault events, accurate outage detection and time synchronized load planning data in one package to provide the intelligence needed to restore outages faster and to better understand the cause of outages on the distribution network. Within the software, customizable rules can be defined to alert utilities to inefficient operating conditions, subtle system failures, or indications of anomalous behavior that are early indications of future large-scale outages. During an outage, visualization tools pinpoint locations to reduce drive and restoration times.
Tollgrade has won over 10 awards for its LightHouse platform since the beginning of 2013. Earlier this year, Tollgrade made a “Commitment to Action” at the Clinton Global Initiatives America meeting to “Build a Predictive Grid for the Motor City,” using their LightHouse platform. This commitment was featured on stage during the closing plenary session moderated by President Bill Clinton.
