Wharf Art Walk On October 16 to Celebrate Locals’ Itineraries
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 08, 2014 -- San Francisco Bay Area residents are about to see a thriving side of Fisherman’s Wharf that most locals forget about—the arts. On Thursday, October 16 from 5:30 - 9:00 PM, select art galleries of the Fisherman’s Wharf district will open their doors to local art lovers with special events and complimentary wine refreshments. The first-ever Wharf Art Walk event, which is organized by the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District (FWCBD), marks the release of a series of locals-focused neighborhood itineraries. The itineraries were created by Wharf-insiders and local bloggers to showcase the unexpected and off-the-beaten-path attractions and activities at Fisherman’s Wharf that both visitors and long-time locals will love.
The first three locals’ itineraries the FWCBD will release are targeted at the Arts Aficionado, the Nautical Nut, and the Unexpected Explorer. The arts itinerary not only features the district’s world-class galleries, but also highlights the area’s standout public art pieces and less-known museums. Maritime lovers can explore the rich historic relics of the district’s past and get off-land with seafaring adventures. The Unexpected Explorer, curated by San Francisco “cult hero” Broke-A** Stuart, takes even the most jaded local on a budget-friendly tour you won’t find in any guide book. The itineraries will be published at VisitFishermansWharf.com.
To celebrate the release of these guides, the FWCBD and the neighborhood galleries are throwing a locals-only party. The evening’s participating galleries will include Eden Fine Art, ZK Gallery, Chloe Fine Arts, Franklin Bowles Galleries, and Vitkovsky Fine Arts. Galleries will host complimentary wine, beverages, and snacks. Participants will also extend their open hours until 9:00 PM and host a series of special events. Attendees of the Wharf Art Walk can stroll the gallery district at their leisure as well as attend scheduled artist talks and gallery tours. One highlight of the evening will be the opening of a special exhibition at Vitkovsky Fine Art, It Figures!, which explores the many shapes that contemporary abstract art can take. Another not-to-be-missed event will be Chloe Fine Arts and Google Glass Explorers’ launch of the GuidiGO app, which will allow Google Glass owners and those with mobile phones to take an interactive tour of the gallery. Gallery-hoppers will see a wide selection of world class artists including Dali, Picasso, Chagal, Lewis Carol, Leroy Neiman, among many others. A full schedule of the evening’s events are available at http://bit.ly/1oKLR3R.
The Wharf Art Walk is a free event but RSVP is required. Attendees can reserve tickets at http://bit.ly/1q5FbN2. All attendees will be entered to win two free tickets to Cirque du Soleil- KURIOS, the new show premiering in San Francisco on November 14. Cirque du Soleil is the official sponsor of the Wharf Art Walk.
