Mystery of the Park Art Show Supports The Friends of Algonquin Park
Algonquin Park, Muskoka, Ontario (PRWEB) October 09, 2014 -- The 22nd annual Mystery of the Park, an art exhibit and sale in support of The Friends of Algonquin Park (http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/foap/), returns to the Algonquin Provincial Park this fall. Presented by the East Central Ontario Art Association (ECOAA), a non-profit organization dedicated to the visual arts, Mystery of the Park is a popular art show and sale of original paintings by ECOAA members, with a portion of all sales dedicated to The Friends of Algonquin Park. According to Kim Smith, The Friends of Algonquin Park Vice Chair and owner of Bartlett Lodge (http://www.bartlettlodge.com), this annual Algonquin Park art show is an important fundraiser for the organization.
The Friends of Algonquin Park is a non-profit Canadian charity committed to educational and interpretive programs in Algonquin Provincial Park. Since its inception, The Friends of Algonquin Park has raised millions of dollars to fund important research, develop and implement park programs, workshops and events, and produce educational materials for students and for the general public. As well as the Mystery of the Park art show and sale, the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre hosts other Algonquin-themed exhibits throughout the year that also benefit The Friends of Algonquin Park.
“For generations, artists have been drawn to Algonquin Park and the raw natural beauty of its landscape, including many of Canada’s finest artists, such as Tom Thompson and the Group of Seven. It is only fitting that we celebrate the fine art that Algonquin continues to inspire with art shows like Mystery of the Park, a must see show for all Park visitors,” says Kim Smith. “The Friends of Algonquin Park are very grateful to the members of the East Central Ontario Art Association for all their support, and congratulate them on their fine show,” adds Smith.
Mystery of the Park is a juried exhibition and sale that features almost 150 quality paintings by talented local artists, including stunning works in oil, watercolour and acrylic. Each painting selected for the show depicts the artist’s interpretation of their favorite location within Algonquin Park. Artists vie for prizes that have been generously donated by an Algonquin Park resort. Admission to the art show is free to all park visitors with a valid park permit. In past years, thousands of park visitors have passed through the Mystery of the Park exhibit to view the exceptional Algonquin-themed paintings on display and to meet some of the artists. The show offers participating artists excellent exposure and the opportunity to sell their artwork to the public. The Mystery of the Park art exhibit and sale runs from Friday, September 26 through October 26, 2014 and is held at the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
