Medina City Schools Cuts Costs with Energy Conservation Program
Middleburg Heights, Ohio (PRWEB) October 10, 2014 -- In the spirit of Energy Awareness Month, Medina City School District administrators are excited to announce that the energy conservation program entered into under House Bill 264 (HB 264) has been a tremendous success for the schools, students, faculty and local community. The savings achieved from the innovative energy conservation program this year alone have amounted to over 43%, which translates into approximately $501,965. Not only does the energy conservation program save taxpayer dollars, but in many cases it also saves jobs that would otherwise have been eliminated due to budget constraints.
With unpredictable energy costs, there has never before been a better time to implement an energy conservation program. The primary needs identified by the District were to implement repairs to the facilities with the savings generated by lowering utility costs. Included in the District’s facility improvements are indoor lighting upgrades, daylight harvesting, heating and ventilation, demand control ventilation, building automation system upgrades, variable frequency drives, heat recovery and pool system modifications, vending machine controls, and water conservation.
In environmental and sustainability terms the reduction in energy consumption equates to preventing approximately 2,143 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions from being released into the atmosphere, and is equivalent to removing 409 cars from the road each year.
“Our community expects us to do more with less, and to operate at the highest possible level of efficiency. This project has been a great example of how we have gone about reducing costs and improving the overall school environment,” said Jon Burkhart, Director of Business Affairs at Medina City Schools.
The Medina City School District’s successful cost-saving program is being implemented with their energy partner, Brewer-Garrett, a leading energy conservation company located in Middleburg Heights, Ohio.
