Microencapsulation allows us to work with an even broader range of ingredients to bring our partners innovative, targeted soft chew supplements.
Menomonie, Wis. (PRWEB) October 13, 2014
Vets Plus, Inc., a leading manufacturer of pet health products, is proud to announce its newly developed proprietary microencapsulation technology to address stability of actives in soft chews.
Microencapsulation is a protective shell that keeps an active ingredient locked in and stabilized until the release of the material is desired. This means a wider array of ingredients that are sensitive to manufacturing processes or stomach acids can be used in soft chews with improved viability. A coating that tastes or smells better to the animal will result in improved palatability.
The Benefits of Microencapsulation:
- Flavor protection
- Improved stability
- Increased shelf life
- Reduced degradation by stomach acids
- Controlled release
- Odor masking
This technology is initially being used for probiotic microorganisms sensitive to gastrointestinal conditions. Vets Plus has microencapsulated these actives with the innovative method to improve viability and stability.
Microencapsulation of the probiotic cells is just one of the newest technologies being developed by researchers at Vets Plus Inc. Founder, President & CEO of Vets Plus, Raj Lall, said, “This technology will first be applied to the soft chew delivery system for pets, but our research will continue. There are many additional applications for both companion and food animal products.”
Lall said, “With our proprietary cold extrusion process for soft chew production, we’ve found ways to ensure viability of temperature-sensitive microorganisms. Microencapsulation allows us to work with an even broader range of ingredients to bring our partners innovative, targeted soft chew supplements. This is the next step toward creating high-quality solutions that are both viable and stable.”
