Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition Presents The Firefly Ball
Los Angeles, Calif. (PRWEB) October 10, 2014 -- Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition is a membership-based, volunteer-driven nonprofit. For over 15 years and through 13 volunteer-led chapters, LACBC has used advocacy, education and outreach to unite the diverse bicycling community to improve the bicycling environment and quality of life for Los Angeles County.
The Firefly Ball is an evening to celebrate LACBC’s achievements and set goals for the future. Beginning with a cocktail hour and silent auction, the evening will give way to a dinner and awards ceremony, complete with music by Historic Filipinotown’s #1 swingtime band, the Hi Fi Honeydrops.
Honorees of The Firefly Ball include elected officials, grassroots activists and members of the business community who support LACBC in making Los Angeles more bike-friendly. This year’s honorees are Andy Leeka (Blessing of the Bicycles), Alex Baum (City of Los Angeles Bicycle Advisory Committee), and Dr. Suja Lowenthal (Big Blue Bus).
The Firefly Ball is named for its timing with the seasonal launch of Operation Firefly/Operación Luciérnaga, LACBC’s distribution and education program to improve bike safety at night. Biking at night without lights and reflectors is dangerous and illegal under California law (CVC21201). In the most recent season of Operation Firefly, LACBC distributed 1,000 bike lights to bicyclists who were unable to acquire them.
Tickets and sponsorship opportunities for the October 30th LACBC Firefly Ball are available at http://lacbc.nationbuilder.com/firefly_ball.
