M2SYS Technology today announced that the Department of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center has implemented a customized version of the RightPatient® patient identification solution to accurately identify patients as a safety precaution prior to receiving radiation treatment. RightPatient® is the industry’s most advanced patient identity management and data integrity platform designed to improve patient safety by ensuring accurate care delivery, regardless of the setting. The RMAS department selected iris recognition among the various forms of biometrics that RightPatient® supports.

Committed to offering the safest environment possible for patients who are receiving potentially lethal radiation treatments if administered incorrectly, the RMAS department sought a solution that proactively prevented identification errors that could jeopardize patient safety. Once enrolled, patients can be unambiguously identified for the rest of their life due to the fact that the human iris pattern is formed at 10 months of age and stays the same throughout a patient’s life.
