Comedian Michael Colyar Reveals His Inspirational Journey to Hollywood, Racism in the Black Community & Personal Struggles on Maria Menounos' Black Hollywood Live Network
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) October 10, 2014 -- Stand-up comedian and actor Michael Colyar discusses his inspirational journey from Chicago to Hollywood, the state of violence & racism in the black community and personal struggles on Maria Menounos' Black Hollywood Live Network.
With an entertainment career that has lasted over 30 years, Colyar talked about everything from his humbling start as a street performer in Chicago, to selling everything he owned and driving to California to follow his dream. “You don't know where you're going until you get there, but you always want to do what your heart desires. What is the one thing you would do if no one paid you for it? You are responsible for your own happiness. It is your birthright to be happy.”
Colyar is well known in the entertainment industry, but admitted to Black Hollywood Live that even with his success, he is a victim of racism. “I was kicked off a plane for not allowing a white woman to use my luggage space. We, as a black community, must handle racial injustices in a manner that does not hurt our own community, such as rioting."
Colyar goes on to discuss the high number of homicides in his home town of Chicago and what he is doing to help the situation. "I am producing a single featuring Hip Hop stars, as well as Chicago natives, addressing the state of violence in the city."
He continues to stay busy with acting, stand-up and being an author of his new book "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The White House" which is a love letter and historical book for all ages, based on President Obama. Colyar's life is a great example of how to turn your passion into a career.
