Idol has been in the news lately because of his autobiography and his most recent album. The former is titled Dancing with Myself was released this week and the latter, Kings & Queens of the Underground is scheduled to be released on Oct. 21. The 58-year-old native of Stanmore, Middlesex, England, first became a known commodity in the music business when he was in the band, Generation X. This was during the time when the punk rock era of music first began to gain in popularity.
When he left the band to become a solo artist, he was one of the artists that MTV anointed the “Second British Invasion.” Over the course of his career as a solo performer, he released seven albums, one live album, four compilation albums, and released 34 singles. Among his most popular singles and the songs fans will want to hear the popular English performer sing live on tour next year include “Eyes Without a Face,” “To Be A Lover,” “Mony Mony,” “Rebel Yell,” “Cradle of Love,” “Shock to the System,” “Hot in the City,” “Don’t Need a Gun,” “Dancing with Myself,” and “White Wedding.”
Kings & Queens of the Underground will be his eighth solo album release and the first since 2006 when he released Happy Holidays. He hasn’t earned a Platinum certification for an album since his 1990 release, Charmed Life, which peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 album charts. His most popular album release to date has been his 1983 release, Rebel Yell, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard charts in the United States and was certified Platinum twice by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Idol’s North American portion of the 2015 tour currently features just 14 dates, but he will perform in many of biggest markets on the continent. Among the venues he will be performing at include the Lincoln Theater in Washington, DC; The Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA; Massey Hall in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Paramount Theatre in Denver, CO; Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA; and Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
