Berkeley Nucleonics Releases Feature-Rich Update for Smartphone App - Isotope Identification at Your Fingertips
San Rafael, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2014 -- Berkeley Nucleonics Corporation (BNC) has released PeakAbout V3.5 for the SAM III family of Radiation Isotope Identifiers (RIID). The update to the Smarphone App is packed with new features which simplify and expand the capabilities of existing isotope identifiers in the field. “By leveraging smartphone familiarity, we have been able to speed up training cycles and automate many meaningful measurement and assessment tasks”, comments David Brown, the company President. “With the cellphone/pda platform, our development cycles and feature introductions are lightning fast. I’ve seen our design team address end user requests in as short as a matter of days.”
Some of the handy updates in V3.5 include
Finder Screen – Slide the DoseRate odometer to the side and a Finder-Mode replaces it. This useful time vs countrate dynamic histogram will be familiar to SAM users, but the resolution of our latest smartphones and detailed labels in PeakAbout add unparalleled clarity when searching for sources. This visually effective surveillance mode detects momentary increases of activity that give the operator a second chance to locate a source that could have otherwise passed unnoticed.
Help Text Pop-ups – In critical situations a responder has more important things in mind than recalling symbols, names, and characteristics of isotopes. PeakAbout gives you additional details to assist. Touch the peaks of an identified nuclide in the spectrum and get immediate help. You’ll see a brief “cheat sheets” that helps you understand and communicate the significance of what is detected.
Health Safety Alarm – Multiple alarm thresholds are ideal for Rad Workers or Nuclear Power applications, where users are interested in small radiation level changes as well as large health risks. PeakAbout 3.5 gives you both. A separate Alarm parameter is now offered for user who wish to include Worker Safety in their portable applications. This alarm is more concerning, so we have added additional graphical emphasis to ensure that this alarm is recognizably not a low-level radiation hit.
The company has planned an additional update to PeakAbout in early 2015. PeakAbout controls both Backpack and Handheld radiation isotope identification devices (RIIDs) For more, see http://www.berkeleynucleonics.com or call 800-234-7858.
