This treatment is not a ‘cure all’ but demonstrates an underlying mechanism that should be addressed prior to establishing the need for other treatments.

MMTR Physiotherapy’s new research results reveal the effectiveness of MyoWorx® Concussion Treatment for chronic post-concussion symptoms. MMTR’s team of medical professionals conducted all research at MMTR Physiotherapy’s Guelph-based specialty clinic using the MyoWorx® Treatment protocol, and the results of the study were recently presented at the ACRM Conference.
MMTR’s observational study was conducted on patients experiencing post-concussion symptoms for 12 weeks or longer and who had already tried traditional treatments and concussion management. The symptoms studied included: noise and light sensitivity, fatigue, irritability, poor concentration, headaches, dizziness, nausea and many more.
There were two subject groups involved in the study. A Low Frequency of Treatment Group (62 subjects) received treatments at the typical rate of two to three times per week and a High Frequency of Treatment Group (39 subjects) received treatments daily for the first two weeks on average then, returned to a low frequency of treatments. There were 101 subjects total that participated in the research study.
The MMTR Physiotherapy team administered the very same treatment for both High and Low Frequency of Treatment groups: the MyoWorx® TM20 Device applied with heat for 30 minutes to muscles of the neck and upper back, followed by targeted myofascial and trigger-point release. Following this, the participants received specific instruction and monitoring for stretching and graduated strengthening exercises.
MMTR experts found that this unique treatment resulted in a high percentage of participants in both groups responding positively to the treatment. These subjects also experienced a significant decrease in symptoms. More subjects in the High Frequency group (87 percent) who had headaches, dizziness and nausea responded positively compared with 73 percent of those in the Low Frequency Group. For subjects experiencing cognitive, emotional, sleep disturbance and other bodily symptoms, 95 percent in the High Frequency group responded positively compared with 86 percent in the Low Frequency group. Within this selected time period, the average amount of improvement experienced by all subjects was 58 percent for headaches, 79 percent for dizziness, 67 percent for concentration problems and 73 percent for irritability, to name a few. All measures and symptoms (with the exception of the symptom of restlessness) were statistically significant.
In conclusion, the High Frequency (of Treatment) group demonstrated an accelerated rate of recovery. The High Frequency group data was based upon an average of 27 days and 13 treatments versus 72 days and 15 treatments for the Low Frequency group. It was highlighted that prior to this study, subjects had been experiencing symptoms for several months or even years. MMTR’s research results of this study concluded that unlike any other intervention, the MyoWorx® Concussion treatment provides enhanced recovery of all potential chronic post-concussion symptoms (cognitive, physical, emotional, behavioral and sleep disturbances). The MMTR team stated that this is an effective integrated approach for chronic post concussion symptoms, which is in contrast to the typical approach of treating the various symptoms using several separate healthcare providers and methods.
