The New Peruvian Frontier Leads The Way For International Audience at 9th Annual Starchefs Congress
New York, New Work (PRWEB) October 13, 2014 -- Prom Peru, the Peruvian Tourism and Export Board, will sponsor the StarChefs International Chefs Congress at Brooklyn Expo Center, 79 Franklin Street, Brooklyn, NY, from October 26-28. Heralded as one of the world’s hottest gastronomic destinations, Peru has quickly gained recognition from international chefs for the unique flavors that make Peruvian dishes some of the best and most varied in the world. The International Chefs Congress is the foremost culinary industry symposium that gathers over 100 of the world's most innovative chefs, pastry chefs, mixologists and sommeliers to present the latest techniques and culinary concepts to their peers.
On Tuesday, October 28, Chef Diego Munoz of Lima’s Astrid y Gaston restaurant, recently awarded 18th place on the prestigious San Pellegrino 50 Best Restaurants List, will present a Savory Hands-On demonstration on the main stage titled The New Peruvian Frontier, alongside Jaime Pesaque of Lima’s Mayta restaurant.
Enormously popular with attendees at last year’s congress, the PromPeru booth will be catered by local chef, Marita Lynn of Runa restaurant in Red Bank, NJ. The menu presented over the three days will include a selection of Peruvian dishes including ceviche, tiraditos and causa, each one showcasing the versatility and high quality of Peruvian food exports. The products being showcased at the Peruvian marketplace this year include Peruvian asparagus, artichokes, quinoa and coffee. These items have specifically been chosen as they best represent the strongest exports to the U.S. market. The Pisco bar will serve Peruvian cocktails including Peru’s national cocktail, the Pisco Sour, crafted from seven of the world’s best Pisco producers.
Peru’s privileged geographic location makes it a country of great biodiversity with a variety of resources: seafood, grains, and products from the coastal valleys, Andean highlands and the Amazon region, which inspire its unique culinary profile. In 2012, 2013 and 2014, Peru won the Best Culinary Destination at the World Travel Awards following on from their 2010 OAS recognition for the cuisine as Cultural Heritage of the Americas for the World. In 2013, the United Nations designated 2013 as the International Year of Quinoa.
Speaking about Prom Peru’s participation at StarChefs, Conrado Falco, Trade Commision of Peru in New York commented, “Peru is a country that lives and breathes its gastronomy. The International Chefs Congress is the perfect platform for PromPeru to showcase our top chefs and products and bring our culinary passion to an international audience of culinary influencers.”
