Global Laser Technology Leader Selects Jeffrey Martin, MD To Discuss Laser Cataract Surgery Techniques In Chicago 2014
Smithtown, New York (PRWEB) October 14, 2014 -- Based on his success with Laser Cataract Surgery since introducing the Catalys laser on Long Island earlier this year, leading cataract surgeon Jeffrey Martin, MD, has been chosen to discuss his surgical techniques with colleagues attending the upcoming American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Chicago. Dr. Martin is the Managing Partner of North Shore Eye Care and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at SUNY Stony Brook.
Dr. Martin will be speaking on behalf of Abbott Medical Optics (AMO), one of the industry’s leading manufacturers of lasers and lens implant technology. “Laser cataract surgery has had a phenomenal impact on the ophthalmic industry from both a patient perspective and a physician’s perspective,” Dr. Martin said. “It is easily one of the biggest breakthroughs in ophthalmology during the past 10 years and patients are embracing the added safety, precision and accuracy offered by the Catalys laser. I am honored that AMO has asked me to speak on their behalf at this year’s American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting.”
This year’s 118th Annual American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting is being held October 17 – 21 and will host more than 10,000 eye surgeons from around the world. It is the largest ophthalmology meeting of its kind and will feature guest lecturers from more than 20 countries.
“My partners and I at North Shore Eye Care are proud to have the opportunity to help introduce Catalys laser cataract surgery to Long Island,” Dr. Martin said. “Our Catalys Precision Laser System is not only helping set new standards in cataract safety, precision, accuracy and results, it’s also helping to reduce patient fear and anxiety about having cataract surgery.”
Dr. Martin also pointed out that Catalys laser cataract surgery is allowing North Shore Eye Care surgeons to take one of the safest, most successful procedures performed in medicine today and actually make it even better. “When you combine the benefits of Laser Cataract Surgery with our exciting new Cataract Lens Implants that we now offer at North Shore Eye Care, there has simply never been a better time to be considering cataract surgery than right now,” he said.
Femtosecond laser cataract surgery using the Catalys Precision Laser System offers a reproducible, noninvasive technique to replace the least predictable - and most technically demanding - steps for surgeons during conventional cataract procedures. “Our Catalys laser procedure is truly a technological breakthrough in precision, accuracy and safety for today’s cataract patients,” Dr. Martin said. Cataract removal and lens implantation is one of the most common – and successful medical procedures performed today. Each year, more than two million people in the United States have their vision restored through cataract surgery and provide patients a gentle, highly customized cataract surgery with unprecedented precision and accuracy.
Dr. Martin and his medical staff are among the top 10% surgeons in the world to offer patients the safety, precision and accuracy of the Catalys Laser System. North Shore Eye Care is the first practice in Suffolk County and the second practice on Long Island to give patients access to this advanced laser technology.
The Catalys makes laser correction of astigmatism now possible with more precise and predictable laser-guided application. In the post-operative recovery period following laser cataract surgery, there is less incidence of swelling and inflammation than with traditional cataract surgery.
“Abbott Medical Optics continues to build on their reputation as a global leader in bringing new technologies to the ophthalmic industry, so I am honored to once again have been selected to help lead this discussion at our annual AAO meeting in Chicago,” said Dr. Martin. “I hold both Dr. Dell and Dr. Schalhorn in very high regard and look forward to joining them on the podium to share our expertise with our colleagues.”
“The national outcomes have been excellent with patients achieving early visual recovery,” reports Dr Martin. “The laser procedure is surgeon-directed, computer controlled and allows for added precision during surgery. This means our patients can return to their normal activities sooner.”
