Scripps College has received a $10 million donation from an anonymous donor to support the construction of its tenth residence hall.

Scripps College is a nationally ranked women's liberal arts college in Los Angeles County.

The new residence hall will reflect our commitment to build state-of-the-art facilities that preserve the historic integrity of the Scripps campus.

Scripps College has received a $10 million donation from an anonymous donor to support the construction of its tenth residence hall.

President Lori Bettison-Varga said, “This generous gift will provide a beautiful, modern, and comfortable home away from home for more than 100 students and allow all Scripps students to participate in the residential life experience that is so critical to our tight-knit community.”

The College will work with the donor to identify a name for the residence upon completion; in the interim, the building will be known as “NEW Hall.”

The residence hall will provide additional space for students currently living in off-campus housing, reduce the number of double and triple occupancy rooms, and provide flexibility to respond to the significant increase in the number of applicants to Scripps.

The building design includes student rooms and suites, a computer room, kitchen, and recreation room, while incorporating distinctive features such as a browsing room, living room, and courtyards that define the Scripps residential environment. The new hall will reflect the Mediterranean-style architecture, pathways, and vistas that have earned the College its reputation as one of the nation’s most beautiful college campuses.

Bettison-Varga said, “The new residence hall will reflect our commitment to build state-of-the-art facilities that preserve the historic integrity of the Scripps campus.”

This $10 million pledge follows the recent announcement of a $1.1 million gift for the new housing from the Georgia Ridder Foundation. Scripps is committed to raising additional funds toward the $20 million slated for the residence hall by 2017 as part of the More Campaign for Scripps College. Including this commitment, the Campaign has raised $103 million toward the goal of $175 million by 2018.

The Campaign is now the largest in Scripps history, surpassing the successful “Campaign for the Scripps Woman” that concluded with $101 million in gifts and pledges in 2004, well above its $85 million goal.
