Brewer-Garrett Helps Evergreen Local School District Save Big with Energy Conservation Program
Metamora, OH (PRWEB) October 16, 2014 -- In the spirit of Energy Awareness Month, the Evergreen Local School District administrators are excited to announce that the energy conservation program entered into under House Bill 264 (HB 264) has been a tremendous success for the schools, students, faculty and local community. The savings achieved from the innovative energy conservation program this year alone have amounted to over 28%, which translates into approximately $87,040. Not only does the energy conservation program save taxpayer dollars, but in many cases it also saves jobs that would otherwise have been eliminated due to budget constraints.
With unpredictable energy costs, there has never before been a better time to implement an energy conservation program. The primary needs identified by the District were to implement repairs to the facilities with the savings generated by lowering utility costs. Included in the District’s facility improvements are indoor lighting upgrades, ventilation, demand control and retro-commissioning, vending controls, solar sign installation, LED parking lot lighting, and the implementation of energy efficient computing systems.
In environmental and sustainability terms the reduction in energy consumption equates to preventing approximately 376 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions being released into the atmosphere, and is equivalent to removing 72 cars from the road each year.
“When the cost of energy is rising, it becomes more even more critical to decrease our District’s operational costs by reducing our consumption of energy. But reducing the cost of energy is just one of many benefits associated with an energy conservation project, albeit an important one. A reduction in the consumption of energy allows us to become better stewards of our limited natural resources, helping to reduce the amount of pollutants being released into the environment. Our students, staff and community members are learning valuable real life lessons in energy conservation they can replicate at home. Whenever we work together to reduce our carbon footprint – and save money in the process – our efforts become a “win-win” proposition for the Evergreen Community!” - Jim Wyse, Superintendent
