Trevor Romain Rolls out NEW Teen Program on Fall USO Tour to the Pacific
Arlington, Va (PRWEB) October 14, 2014 -- October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, and the USO and Trevor Romain are partnering to make sure military children across the globe are equipped to handle bullying and the many other challenges that are a part of the military lifestyle. As kids are settling into their daily school routines, making new friends and growing up, the USO and Trevor Romain are bringing the With You All the Way! tour overseas to give extra support to military families that are serving abroad. This tour will introduce Romain’s new teen program to military school-aged children living in Japan, Okinawa and Guam. Teens in the Pacific will be the first to participate in Romain’s newly developed program – geared towards helping young teens cope with the stresses of high school and military living.
“The transition to high school can be very intimidating, and can add to the stress many military kids are already feeling,” said Romain. “That’s why it was so important to me to design the teen program, I wanted to be able to create the same safe environment for them to connect with their peers, to open up about their fears and to know that they are not alone.”
This past August more than 23,000 U.S. military kids returned back to school to a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) School in the Pacific. As part of the two week tour, Romain will visit 13 schools and host 35 presentations for more than 3,500 DoDEA students.
“We're honored to have Trevor Romain visit our DoDEA schools in DoDEA Pacific during Bullying Prevention month through the support of the USO,” said DoDEA coordinator for School Counseling and Psychology Jasmine McLeod. "We have extraordinary students that make sacrifices everyday so our military men and women can serve our country. The USO, With You All The Way tour is a great example of how our community partnerships leverage our ability to foster resilient, healthy, and confident military connected students.”
The With You All the Way! tours are sponsored by the USO in partnership with The Comfort Crew for Military Kids (CCMK). At each of the more than 30 presentations teens will have the opportunity to open up about some of the hardships they face as a military dependent, including difficult topics such as bullying, deployment, reintegration and when a parent returns home with visible and invisible wounds. Romain uses his arsenal of motivational experiences and high-energy antics to create an open and safe environment for kids to openly share their concerns among their peers. With reports citing that more than 20 percent of children in grades six through 12 have been a victim of bullying and about 30 percent of school-aged kids admitting to having bullied a school mate, Romain spends extra time helping military youths and their parents to recognize the signs of bullying and how to address it – whether the child is the victim or the bully.
“Being a parent of six children and a retired service member I know, first hand, the impact a program like the USO With You All the Way! Tour has on military families, "said USO Vice President of Warrior and Family Care Ed Shock. "Partnering with Trevor Romain and The Comfort Crew for Military Kids is an amazing opportunity for the USO to help build stronger military families and provide these young heroes with the tools they need to build resiliency and to let them know how important they are to the military and their communities.”
