Fine art and knife collectors are always on the lookout for pieces that are unique and have the ability to capture people’s attention and grow in value. Mario Marcella has encapsulated the desires of both groups with his knife sculptures. By offering his collection of handmade knives to the public for the first time, Marcella has taken collector’s imaginations to new levels.
Using semi-precious and precious stones and minerals, Marcella's knife sculptures can only be described as stunning. This 72 year old artist elects not to use steel in his knives, instead opting for an array of precious and semi-precious gemstones, exotic woods, minerals, ivory, bone and other natural materials. The result of this transforms what are traditionally considered only weapons, into beautiful works of art.
"I purchased a Mario Marcella knife sculpture the moment I saw them", said Paul Crandall. "I am not a knife collector but these were magnificent and unusual pieces of art. I had to have one. My wife and I showcase it in our living room".
Marcella does not mass produce any of his hand crafted knife sculptures; they are all one-of-a-kind fine art pieces. He personally crafts each one through a painstaking process that results in the quality of work that collectors have fallen in love with. Over the past 45 years, Mario has perfected his craft and has often only shown his work through small venues. The general public has never been able to purchase these masterpieces, until now. Marcella has partnered with a marketing company and has recently launched a website selling a limited number of his pieces, http://www.knivesinstone.com. Through this limited release, both fine art and knife collectors can see the genius and talent behind the elements he pairs in his knives.
This new category of fine art knife sculptures is sure to get a lot of attention from collectors of fine art, antiques, rarities, upscale decor and one-of-a-kind items. Marcella believes people on a national level will enjoy seeing his knife sculpture creations for the first time.
