$3 Million Raised to Continue the Fight Against Cancer
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2014 -- We are proud to announce that Kure It Cancer Research has surpassed the fundraising milestone of $3 million raised. Dedicated to funding underfunded cancer research, Kure It provides grants to leading medical institutions across the country for research projects that can be translated into new treatments and better understanding in the fight against cancer. According to the American Association for Cancer Research, an estimated 13.7 million cancer survivors live in the US today – largely due to the medical advances that research has made possible. Privatized support, like that provided by Kure It, is crucial to continue funding innovative projects that will improve the life of cancer patients and their families.
“Many researchers lack the funds to carry out their projects to the end and it is not uncommon for researchers to spend more time raising funds than working in the laboratory”, said Kure It founder, Barry Hoeven. “We established Kure It to fill the gap and place cancer research dollars directly into the hands of the investigators”. Mr. Hoeven and the Kure It team know that cancer affects everyone and today, with this remarkable benchmark of giving, we are $3 million closer to making cancer a disease of the past.
The donation that pushed Kure It past the $3 million dollar mark comes from the generous support of Commonwealth Partners’ Champion Level sponsorship of Kure It Cancer Research’s annual Rivals United for a Kure campaign. Every year Kure It unites the Los Angeles sports community together in support of underfunded cancer research at UCLA Jonsson and USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Centers. Commonwealth Partners reached out to Kure It to become part of Rivals United for a Kure because of the opportunity Rivals United offered to their LA Tenants. “The rivalry of UCLA and USC provides energy and fun to our customers, so to be able to harness the spirit of the iconic crosstown rivalry for a life-saving cause that benefits the community we live and work in was a perfect match” said Brett Munger, President of Commonwealth Partners. “We see the impact of cancer on a personal level time and time again, so to align our company with Rivals United, give back to our community in such a significant way, and unite our co-workers, friends and families together in the rivalry’s Fight for a Kure - it’s inspiring. And it’s fun!”
In addition to the annual Rivals United for a Kure campaign, a significant amount of support for Kure It Cancer Research comes from the Self Storage industry. Through regional Self Storage association supported fundraising events, creative operator giving programs and easy customer giving incentives, Kure It has creatively inspired the Self Storage Industry to give back in a variety of small ways that add up to substantial impact. Kure It plans to grant $100,000 in 2015 in the name of the California Self Storage Association (CSSA).
Kure It will also grant $250,000 for research in immunotherapy in Kidney Cancer in the Spring of 2015. An international request for proposals has been launched through the American Association of Cancer Researchers (AACR). The 2015 Barb Kaprielian Rivals United for a Kure Grant will be awarded as a team science grant, for a projected total of $500,000 in April 2015.
About Kure It Cancer Research
Kure It was established as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2010, providing funding for innovative research projects focused on kidney cancer and other underfunded cancers. The funds raised through Kure It directly support groundbreaking research at leading cancer centers. Founded by Barry Hoeven after his diagnosis with cancer, Kure It expanded to support all underfunded cancers when the vast disconnect between the number of people afflicted with cancer and the amount of funding available for research became apparent. Kure It Cancer Research holds strong to the belief in the power of research in the Fight for a Kure. We visualize the victory of a cancer free world - together we will win.
