Why
More than 1.4 billion people worldwide live in extreme poverty – on less than $1.25 USD a day. Approximately 600 million of these are children, whose severe lack of access to education, basic healthcare, a safe environment, clean water and other critical services only exacerbate their economic, physical, social and spiritual vulnerability.
Founded in 1952, Compassion International has revolutionized the fight against global poverty by working exclusively with the Church to develop children out of poverty to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. It is the only child sponsorship program to be validated through independent, empirical research. Through its Child Survival, Child Sponsorship and Leadership Development Programs, Compassion-registered children receive education, nutrition, health care, a safe, loving environment, and more that empowers them to escape the cycle of poverty.
