Ken Thorpe Foundation Collaborative Community Efforts Give The Indianapolis Underserved Youth Hope
Indianapolis, Indiana (PRWEB) November 03, 2014 -- The Ken Thorpe Foundation is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Adult Prom Gala, taking place November 21st, at the Regions Tower, located at One Indiana Square in Indianapolis. "Mardi Gras" is the theme for this year’s event. Founded in 2012, the mission of the Ken Thorpe Foundation is to support, encourage, and challenge underserved youth and to move their lives forward through educational, professional and mentoring opportunities.
Donations from this year’s event will support the three following programs:
A.R.T. of Excellence Scholarship Fund & Internship Program – This year-round effort raises funds to support two (2) graduating seniors from Warren Central High School that are planning on attending either Indiana University or Ball State University.
Camp ROC – Utilizing professional recruits, this program provides role models as mentors for disadvantaged youth, aged 11-18 years, from Indianapolis.
Entrepreneurship Camp – This effort, in conjunction with the Minority Supplier Development Council and Kenneth Allen, trains young entrepreneurs on the “ABC’s” of business.
The first Adult Prom was very successful, attracting approximately 250 attendees and raising enough funds to support two scholarships, two internships and a 6-week summer entrepreneurship camp. According to Ken Thorpe, “As a local businessman and entrepreneur, my goal is to support the youth of Indianapolis. We are changing the socio- economic dynamic by creating opportunities for our youth to succeed through entrepreneurship and leadership.”
The event aims to raise funds to support our youth while making it enjoyable and memorable for all participants. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, live music by Downstroke and DJ Get Live, gamesand a silent auction offering prizes such as dinner for 8 at a local restaurant, travel packages and flight with dinner on your own personal jet for an evening.
