Seattle, WA (PRWEB) October 16, 2014
Lucky Oyster, Inc., makers of social discovery apps and services, today launched Bean Box, a subscription-based coffee discovery platform for coffee lovers. Each month, Bean Box hand picks four roasts in 1.7 ounce sample sizes from premium, independent roasters in Seattle such as Kuma, Herkimer and Lighthouse, and ships them to members within twenty-four hours of roasting. Members enjoy unique and fresh new roasts, along with accompanying tasting notes, and can seamlessly reorder larger quantities of their favorite variety.
“Coffee drinking habits usually have more to do with proximity and convenience than discovering fresh, unique or truly great coffee,” said Matthew Berk, Bean Box’s co-founder. “With 2.5 coffee shops for every 1,000 citizens, Seattle has the greatest concentration of coffee houses in the country, and also one of the largest concentrations of premium artisan roasters. Bean Box makes it possible for those outside Seattle to discover and sample this coffee in its freshest form – all within the friendly confines of their own home.”
“For us,” says Mark Barany, founder of Kuma Coffee, “Bean Box represents an opportunity to share our roasts with a broader, national audience, and to bring coffee discovery to those who ordinarily don’t have access to the amazing coffee crafted in Seattle.” In their first 30 days of beta operation, Bean Box has already delivered that fresh Seattle coffee to 34 states.
Bean Box prides itself on the freshness of the coffee delivered in its monthly coffee boxes. Coffee loses its favor, becomes bitter, and starts to get oily if the coffee beans are more than ten days old. Most coffee beans sold in grocery stores and brewed in large coffee chains are often 3 or more weeks old. Bean Box’s proximity to dozens of premium roasters in Seattle allows them to ship beans to its coffee-loving members directly, within one day of roasting.
“We’ve seen other coffee delivery services boasting about beans being roasted within fourteen days,” added Berk. “Most coffee aficionados won’t touch coffee roasted more than a week ago. If you’re not centrally located near roasters, you need to ship to a central warehouse before shipping once again to customers. With the added stop and use of standard mail, I hope their beans have frequent flyer miles!”
Working directly with roasters to curate each box, Bean Box aims to make fresh artisan coffee accessible to anyone, whether in Seattle or elsewhere. “Our vision is to transform how people discover and experience gourmet coffee. Appreciating fine, freshly-roasted coffee is no longer just for coffee snobs,” noted Ryan Fritzky, Bean Box’s co-founder.
