WriteResult, LLC– a premier provider of ePRO technologies and services – has been working with a team of researchers from Yale University’s School of Public Health and New Haven Farms Community Farming Collaborative to provide electronic questionnaire data collection through use of their iPad-based ePRO solution. The study, which started in May, aims to evaluate the impact of a Farm-Based Wellness program that provides participants weekly exposure to and participation in urban agriculture to impact their consumption of fruits and vegetables and improve their overall health. A pre- and post-test was administered to each participant interview-style using myPROpad™ and included standard anthropometric measurements, English and Spanish versions of a national validated dietary screener to estimate fruit and vegetable intake (NHANES Dietary Screener) and food security status (USDA Household Food Security Survey Module). Weekly visits included collection of program compliance and changes in behavior and perception. With this research, New Haven Farm’s model is examined as a food system approach to impact obesity for those with multiple risk factors.
The Yale Food Systems Symposium (YFSS), taking place on November 14th and 15th, brings together researchers, practitioners, theorists, and consumers to discuss pathways to a sustainable food system and pushes the conventional boundaries of food systems thinking by focusing on emerging researchers, innovative projects, interdisciplinary thinking, and non-traditional collaboration. “We are so excited to be able to spread the word about what the Yale and New Haven Farms team has accomplished by automating data collection for this program with hopes that it will help other teams struggling with the same issue,” states Karen Briegs, VP Sales and Marketing for WriteResult. “There’s a real need within the field of research to improve collection and availability of data. Many other teams I’ve spoken to are ending up at the close of a project with poor quality data, and missing or incorrect values – and they are getting it months or even years after the study ends. We can help eliminate these challenges and accelerate their ability to report results with our data solutions, especially myPROpad.”
Data collected using myPROpad™ transmits automatically over a Wi-Fi or 3G/Cellular network as users complete their entries. Study teams can then access a control center via PC or iPad to manage and view data and PDF images of the completed forms within moments of completion to facilitate real-time data review and remote monitoring. In addition, myPROpad™ leverages the best features of the iPad – it’s portability, compact design, and large touchscreen – to help make data collection easier and more reliable.
