Northern Arizona University's Personalized Learning Now Offers New B.S. Degree Options
FLAGSTAFF, AZ (PRWEB) October 21, 2014 -- Northern Arizona University’s (NAU) online competency-based Personalized Learning degree program now offers Bachelor of Science degree options in addition to its Bachelor of Arts degrees.
Personalized Learning’s online competency-based education model allows students to earn their degrees based on what they know. Students develop key skills and knowledge areas called competencies and earn credit by demonstrating how well they understand each competency, not from how much time they spend in class.
Personalized Learning students can now choose whether earning a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree fits better with their career and lifestyle. Foreign language is not a requirement for Personalized Learning’s B.S. degrees, allowing students to focus on technical skills.
“We developed the Bachelor of Science degree option because students should have a choice,” says Alison Brown, Associate Vice President at NAU–Extended Campuses. “Students can now choose to intensify their language skills or their scientific reasoning skills.”
The Bachelor of Science degrees offered through Personalized Learning are:
• Computer Information Technology
• Small Business Administration
• Liberal Arts
“We want our Personalized Learning graduates to be prepared when they reach their professional careers,” says Angel Fuentes, Math, Statistics and Science Subject Matter Faculty for Personalized Learning. “Students employed in technical fields will find more relevancy by earning a Bachelor of Science degree because it directly relates to things they do every day.”
