PLEASANT GROVE, UT (PRWEB) October 16, 2014
After two and a half years of litigation, the Fourth District Court for the State of Utah has dismissed the majority of the remaining claims in a case (120100255) brought by Young Living against dōTERRA International, LLC.
The ruling effectively closes the door on what has been a long, costly, and distracting process for the two companies since 2012. In the American court system, motions for summary judgment are difficult to win largely because the system prefers to let its citizens have their day in court. When a judge summarily dismisses a lawsuit before trial, it is because there are no material facts in dispute, no merit to the claims asserted, or insufficient evidence to proceed.
According to dōTERRA executives, seeing these legal issues coming to a close will allow the company to focus on the strong growth experienced over the past year and further strengthen dōTERRA product offerings.
“We’re pleased to be able to put this distraction behind us,” said David Stirling, dōTERRA President and CEO. “It’s unfortunate that so much time, energy, and money on both sides have been spent on something that never should have been taking up time in our courts. We are grateful now to be able to focus more fully on our mission of sharing essential oils and moving toward our goal of seeing an essential oil in every home around the world.”
Stirling continued, “It’s been painful to have to go through this because I know and admire so many people with Young Living. They continue to do much good and we wish them all the best. We now have an opportunity to move on. At this point, we aren’t even really interested in pursuing legal fees as this would simply take up more court time and further distract us from managing our growth here in the US and internationally. Young Living is a good company. There is more that should unite us than divide us as we continue to share essential oils with the world.”
