The Who originally formed in 1964 in London, England. Over the course of their time together, they have also been known as The High Numbers and The Detours. The band has had some members come and go over the years, but Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend were part of the original lineup and are still rocking out for rock and roll loving fans everywhere.
Since entering the music business and getting a record contract, The Who – who are considered one of the most influential bands of the 20th century – have released 11 studio albums, 12 live albums, 26 compilations, and four EPs. As a whole, the band has released 58 singles, many of which charted on the Billboard charts in the United States and around the world.
To celebrate their 50th year together, the band is releasing a special 50th anniversary compilation album and will also be releasing a new single performed by Daltry, Townsend, and touring band members Zak Starkey and Pino Palladino, called “Be Lucky.” Who Hits 50 will be released on Oct. 27 and features songs spread across their entire catalog. Among the songs that the band will include in the compilation and fans will hope to hear live on tour next year include “Zoot Suit,” “I’m Free,” “Behind Blue Eyes,” “My Generation", “I Can’t Explain,” "Substitute," and "Happy Jack."
The first leg of The Who’s 50th anniversary tour will kick off on April 15 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. and run through May 30 at Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills, N.Y. In between, they will travel to venues like the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN; Toyota Center in Houston, TX; PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC; Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT; and Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The second leg of the tour will begin on Sept. 14 in San Diego, CA at the Valley View Casino Center and conclude on Nov. 4 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. They will make stops in between at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.; Key Arena in Seattle, WA; Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC; United Center in Chicago, IL; Madison Square Garden in NYC and TD Garden in Boston, MA.
