Tulsa, Oklahoma (PRWEB) October 20, 2014
Tony award-winning Square 1 Theatrics will co-produce Memphis the Musical, premiering at The Shaftesbury Theatre in London’s West End on October 23, 2014. This is the first international production for Square 1.
An exhilarating and commonly sold out show, Memphis is the winner of four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as four Drama Desk Awards and four Outer Critics’ Circle Awards. Memphis first opened on Broadway in 2009 and ran until August 5, 2012, grossing over $104 million.
Memphis, written by Joe DiPietro, will star the Queen of British Soul, multi-award-winning recording artist Beverley Knight (The Bodyguard), with original songs by GRAMMY winner and Bon Jovi co-founder David Bryan. Memphis is the latest production for Square 1 Theatrics, a Tulsa-based production company that has grown significantly since its inception in 2012.
Square 1, formed by Jay Krottinger and Ryan Tanner, has also produced the acclaimed A Time to Kill, the Tony Award-winning revival of PIPPIN and Broadway National Tour of PIPPIN. The production of PIPPIN opened its National tour to rave reviews September 2014 with stops scheduled for the entire US. In addition, Square 1 has produced the off-Broadway sensation Flipside: The Patti Page Story in conjunction with Oklahoma-native writer and director Greg White.
With the premier of Memphis in London’s West End, the National tour of PIPPIN and the NYC PIPPIN production, the trifecta of award winning shows currently playing and produced by Square 1 is complete. Stay tuned as spring 2015 approaches, Square 1 may be co-producing two additional highly esteemed Broadway theatrical productions.
