It is our goal at The Discovery House to help our clients through their journey of recovery, and allowing them to enjoy an amusing show put on by a comedian is one way we can make the recovery process more pleasant.
LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2014
The Discovery House recently held a comedy night for its residential clients and staff. The event was held Sunday, September 21, 2014, at the Discovery Transitions Meeting Hall, in Van Nuys, California. The night was full of lighthearted laughter and fun, as comedian Mark Lundholm entertained guests.
Laughter provides health many benefits to the body and mind that help those in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions. It increases oxygen intake, which stimulates the heart, lungs and muscles, and increases endorphins in the brain. Laughter helps relieve stress and soothe tension. It increases heart rate and stimulates circulation. The long-term effects of laughter include improved immune system, pain relief, and improved mood, according to the Mayo Clinic website.
As The Discovery House clients experienced first-hand, laughter helps lighten the tension and take one's mind off of troubles. An improved mood and a positive outlook on the future are important for individuals as they go through the stressful and sometimes overwhelming task of recovering from a drug or alcohol addiction.
Founder and CEO of The Discovery House, Tom Whiting, understands the benefits that an event like Comedy Night can have on clients.
"We've all heard the phrase that laughter is the best medicine, and studies have shown that there is validity to this saying. We understand why an individual who is going through a stressful time would benefit from fun and laughter. It is our goal at The Discovery House to help our clients through their journey of recovery, and allowing them to enjoy an amusing show put on by a comedian is one way we can make the recovery process more pleasant. We all had a wonderful time at Comedy Night, and we thank Mark Lundholm for the show."
